Edward J. “Jack” Callaghan, 85, of Groveland, MA passed away peacefully Sunday, August 12, 2018 at home. He was the husband of the late Tressa (McBride) Callaghan. Jack was born in Boston, MA March 30, 1933 the son of the late Edward and Marian Callaghan.
He honorably served his country in The United States Army during the Korean War. For his service during the war, Jack was awarded The Purple Heart, 4 Bronze Stars, The United Nations Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal. Jack was employed with The United States Postal Service in Haverhill, MA for several years until his retirement. He was an avid boater and served as Groveland’s first and original Harbor Master. He enjoyed motorcycles and boats and most especially loved patrolling and boating along the Merrimack River for many years. Jack was a member of the Groveland D.A.V. and V.F. W.
Jack is survived by his son Glenn Callaghan and wife Christine of Groveland. He was pre-deceased by his son, Daniel Callaghan and his devoted wife of 63 years, Tressa Callaghan. Jack’s grateful family would like to express their gratitude to The Compassionate Care Hospice for the great care and kindness they provided Jack and his family.
Services will be private and are in the care of The Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home 129 Kenoza Ave. Haverhill, MA 01830. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local animal rescue/shelter of your choice.
