Joan B. (Donahue) Tranfaglia, 78, of West Newbury, MA, passed away peacefully Friday, January 10, 2020 at The High Pointe House in Haverhill. She was the devoted wife of George P. Tranfaglia, Jr.
Joan was born in Winthrop, MA, July 27, 1941, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothea (Strunk) Donahue. She was raised in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School. Joan was a former resident of East Boston and a graduate of Boston State. She was employed for 25 years as an elementary educator with the Boston Public Schools. After relocating with her husband to West Newbury, she was most recently employed with the West Newbury Public Library.
Joan was a member of the West Newbury Garden Club and delighted being involved with her community. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing and had a sharp sense of humor that kept those who knew her best greatly entertained. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and the community of West Newbury, MA.
Joan is survived by her adoring husband of 60 years, George P. Tranfaglia, Jr. of West Newbury, her son, Dr. Michael R. Tranfaglia and wife Katherine of West Newbury and her daughter, Christina Tranfaglia of Glenview, IL. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Andrew Tranfaglia of West Newbury and Laura Solarz of Saugus, MA.
