Laurel (Laurie) A. Taylor Dumas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends after a brief and brave battle with cancer. Her strong relationship with God guided her through her journey home.

Laurel grew up in Lynn, MA at the end of Curtis Street, a small dead end street off of Greenwood Avenue.  Laurel recalled helping to build that house as a child with her father Charlie, mother Edna, and her brother Rick, of which all have pre-deceased.    Laurel loved the home they built.   Their picture window provided a beautiful view of Egg Rock, Revere, and Nahant to the east, Charlestown and Boston to the south, and Chelsea and Everett to the southwest.  She graduated from Lynn Classical High School where she went on to attend nursing school.

Laurel would later achieve her Bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of New Hampshire and Master’s degree in nursing from Salem State College.  She worked as a nurse for over 40 years. She began her career at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill, but the majority was spent at the Bon Secour (Holy Family) Hospital in Methuen, where she worked in ICU and the Emergency Room.  Laurel would later go on to run the cardiac rehab center at Holy Family Hospital.  Laurel loved the profession of nursing, passing along that passion as an adjunct instructor at Northern Essex Community College.

A resident of Groveland for 52 years, Laurel attended the Congregational Church where she was a long time member of the choir, singing Alto.  During her retirement years, Laurel spent many hours in her garden with friends and neighbors; she volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and spent time traveling with her long-time companion, Richard (Dick) Walsh.

Laurel is survived by her son Mark and his wife Sandy of Groveland, MA, her son Scott and his wife Amy of Merrimac, MA, her son Paul and his wife Jodi of Fort Lauderdale, FL, her son Philip (Phil) of Gloucester, MA. Laurel is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephen, Brandon, Brianna, Kaci, Alex, Tucker, Taylor, Gillian, Seth and Chelsey, great-granddaughter Ava, niece Dawn and nephew Tim as well as many close and life-long friends.

Calling hours will be held Friday, December 1, 2017  from 4-7 PM at The Grondin-Carnevale Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave. Haverhill, MA 01830.  A service to celebrate Laurel’s life will be held Saturday, December 2, at 11:00AM from The Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St. Groveland, MA 01834. A burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Groveland.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations in Laurel’s memory be made to The Groveland Congregational Church.
