Lucy B. Johnson, 97, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 1, 2021 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen. Lucy was born in Haverhill, February 20, 1923 the daughter of the late Sebastian and Mary (Santos) Grasso. She was the last surviving child of their eight children.
Lucy was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and attended local schools. During World War II, she worked for the war effort at The Boston Naval Shipyard. The United States Military employed Lucy as a Technician in the optical department. She would also work in the Haverhill Shoe Industry. Lucy devoted much of her life caring for her husband and making a home for her family. She enjoyed time with family and friends and loved animals. She especially adored her cat “Timmy”. Lucy will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Janet F. Guilbert and husband, Dr. Daniel Guilbert of Wells ME. She also leaves behind a grandson, Matthew Guilbert and wife, Dana, of San Diego, CA, three great-grandchildren, Riley, Parker and Megan and several nieces and nephews. Lucy was predeceased by her loving husband of over 68 years, the late, Richard Johnson and her granddaughter, Dr. Julie Guilbert Maher.
A private graveside service will take place at Saint James Cemetery in Haverhill, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucy’s memory may be made to the MSPCA by visiting www.mspca.org.
