Scott K. McDowell, 57, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 29, 2021 in the comfort of his lakefront home. He was the beloved husband of Sally L. Story.
Born in Buffalo, New York on June 22, 1963, he was the son of Leon W. McDowell, the late Betty J. (Bethune) McDowell, and the stepson of Catherine Marie McDowell of Vero Beach, FL
He had resided in Beverly before moving to Chebacco Lake in Essex 3 years ago. He was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1981 and received his BS Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Scott was employed as the Director of Quality Assurance at Sensitech, Inc. in Beverly for the past sixteen years.
Scott filled his days with the simple joys of life. When he wasn’t at their beloved lake house practicing guitar, or spending time with his family, you could find Scott seeking adventure through travel. The serenity and simplicity of St John USVI held a special place in Scott’s heart, seeing his and Sally’s wedding, 5 year anniversary and various occasions spent there turned Scott and Sally into honorary locals. Scott felt most at home on the water, spending time fishing with his granddaughter, boating with his friends and family, deep sea diving in the tropics, and soaking in the sun with a drink in his hand. Days filled with nature are a testament to Scott’s gentle demeanor, as Scott and Sally found solace bringing their beloved dog, Marley, for daily walks along the tides of Essex.
In addition to his loving wife of ten years and father and step-mother, he is survived by his children, Alanna M. and Brian S. LaTorella of Tewksbury, Chloe and Lysha McDowell of Springfield, OR, Scott T. Varney of Beverly, Jeffrey F. Varney and his companion, Amber Gillis of Sebago, ME and Amy R. and Tyler Bissel of Standish, ME; two grandchildren, Savannah and Maya Bissel; one brother, Michael McDowell and his wife, Cathy and their daughter Melissa McDowell of Rowley, and many beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Essex County Greenbelt Association PO Box 1026, 82 Eastern Ave., Essex MA 01929. All services will be privately held.
