Will Demand passed away peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the High Point House in Haverhill, MA after a brief illness. He was 96 years young. Will was born in Haverhill and was a lifelong resident. He was a communicant of Saint James Parish and attended Saint James Schools in his youth. Will married his high school sweetheart Dorothy (Dufresne) in 1943. Will and Dot both grew up in “The Acre” section of Haverhill and knew each other their entire lives.
In June of 1943, Will was deployed to France and honorably served his nation in WWII in Company B 383rd - Military Police Battalion. After returning from WWII, Will and Dot started their family in their hometown of Haverhill. They had two daughters Patricia and Maureen. Will was employed by The United States Postal Service as a postman for the City of Haverhill for 26 years before his retirement in 1986.
He was devoted to loving and caring for his family. Will was an avid golfer and enjoyed teaching his grandsons how to play. He also had a love of baseball and coached his grandsons’ little league teams in Haverhill where they grew up. He would later happily cheer on his great-grandson during his baseball games. Will always supported his grandchildren’s various endeavors and loved attending his granddaughter’s dance recitals, academic bowls and many activities. He brought kindness and a smile, often by telling jokes, to most everyone he met. Will led his life by example and was a wonderful role model for his family. He will be lovingly remembered most by those who were lucky enough to call him Dad and Grandpa. This world was truly a better place with him in it.
